Spam, Scam, and Cold Calls

Since I advertise here and there on *Internet Marketing*, there are favorable and unfavorable reactions from the people who came across my ads. There are people kind enough to send me e-mails for cautioning me the system I promote. I know which ad site, but it does not matter. The matter was the fact that there are people exercise wrong practice and blame the system for the poor result. The e-mail I received was in summary saying *I sent 7500 e-mails a day but no result*. I have questions here. Why need to send that many e-mails? To who he sent e-mails. Does he have 7500+ friends, I don*t. Who asked him to send that many e-mails?

I never instruct people to *SPAM*. I do not talk with people or promote system who promote *SPAM*. *SPAM*ming is like machine gun to shoot anybody 360 degrees. It is typical interpretation mistake of marketing professionals saying *Marketing is the number game*. I agree that it is the number game, but nobody told you to keep shooting the wrong side. I receive about 300 spams a day. Many of which are so funny they talk about *Cosmetic Surgery*, try to sell *Slimming Diet* (I am 6 feet tall, 160lbs), sending my wife to enhance *HER* male ability. You cannot sell *books* to the people who are visually handicapped. It is in just a sales bad joke.

I also heard the people call someone *SCAM* Artist. *SCAM*ming is the CRIME to take money and do not deliver the thing he or she promised (refer to my previous article *Internet Marketing*). Mostly you cannot find that kind of person after being scammed. It is so funny that people call someone, whose e-mail address, telephone numbers, or physical address are open and clear, *SCAM* Artist. A criminal hopes his ID is hidden and never appear in public. I experience these criminal act in US and in Japan. I still am chasing them. I filed law suits against them. If I found them, I will ask my money back or put them in jail. Do you?

*COLD CALL*s are the tele-marketing technique to call anyone try to sell something. There is an origine of *SPAM* here. It can be called *SPAM* telephone version. Or *SPAM* is *COLD CALL*, e-mail version. One day I was in a hotel lobby waiting my friend. A taxi driver, who could not find his customer, started to ask almost everybody in the lobby to check if they need a taxi. Do you think this kind of selling action is effective? Everybody started to frown and soon someone called hotel security and the driver is kicked out. You may think this does not apply to SPAM, SCAM, or COLD CALLS and I am talking too much of extreme. But if you are trying to sell *Cosmetic Surgery* to guys, male ability enhancement to ladies, it may be worse.

If your system tries to sell you e-mail list or telephone numbers of the people, quit it. It does not worth trying. You do not want to be a spammer. If you spam, scam, or cold call, please stop. Whoever you are, you do not deserve to be a criminal.

Coming back to the person kindly send me his e-mails, I swear that neither my system nor myself ask anyone to *SPAM*, *SCAM*, or *COLD CALL*. Why? We know those methods are not effective, but harmful. It is harmful to the people*s relationships and even to society. More importantly, we have more effective method we can do.

Internet Facts and Practices

Everybody thinks internet and web-based business changed business. I think so, too. It changed life style in many ways. It was said that revenue total from web-based business will reach up to 18.9 billion dollars and growth rate will be 15-18%. Internet base business are soaring. It was when late 1990's when legacy business people were confused and upset. When companies opened up their own e-commerce web sites, then existing distributors, agents, channel people were gambling, complaining, and upset. We all were aware that it will change sales channels, business practices, price settings, etc... Suppliers of products could no longer control their existing channels. Since I was in a position to make a decision of channel policy of a manufacturer, I received 10 - 15 phone calls from channel people a day that time. They were concerned, worried, and upset. Their worries and concerns were not groundless. Most of their worries burned out to be true, since supplier companies needed to give higher priority to this growing business practice, called internet.

10 years have passed since then. e-commerce and web-based business is growing and more stable than those days. But, my wife keeps telling me that she does not trust internet sales and browse products in using internet and go to street shops to find the products which she found in the net. There are lots of hypes and frauds existing in the other side of internet and for ordinary people it is not easy to know who is real and who is not. Rakuten, largest Japanese e-commerce site, paid back apx. 1 million dollars to their customers who paid for products never delivered to real customers. This happened 2-3 years ago.

What really changed in the net business? Sometimes I think back it might have been same as street shops were replaced by large scale retail stores, large scale retail stores profits were eaten by low-cost warehouse shops. Actually, taking a look at the promotional products inside of direct e-mails, products promoted have not been so much changed. Funny things are that they tries to sell me some women staff. They also send advertisement of men's staff to my wife. We carry Japanese and Chinese names, so it may not be easy for people to distinguish if we are male or female. But, still, it is like machine-gun marketing shooting their own people targeting at the other side of enemy. It will never get favorable result, I assure you. It looks like even the direct marketing behaviors have not been much changed. Cold calls became spams. They say that the loss from spamming in Japan reaches up to 17 million dollars last year and increasing. They establish foreign company, therefore, for Japanese police it is not easy to arrest them, even when they do illegal marketing.

Japanese government plan to enforce laws to bans illegal commercial actions and reduce spams significantly. I hope US and the rest of the world should act to stop spamming and illegal e-commerce actions since they are harming sound growth of internet marketing business and hurting reputation of internet marketers who are trying to properly use and practice the business. I believe that despite of hypes and tricks, illegal conducts, frauds, internet business will stay and keep growing coming 10 years and if connected to proper organization, a lot of internet marketers will be benefited.

Employed or Self employed?

Today, I hope to discuss about the difference between being employed or self employed based on my own experience. After I spinned out (or dumped) from previous my employer who I worked for 20 years, I tried to settle myself down in San Francisco, Bay Area being employed.

It was between March and November, 2001. My previous employer promissed me that they will find some place for me to work as local staff. I was interviewed several times, but none of them gone through. Later I seriously doubt if they were serious in rehiring or just kill their time until I gave up. Here is another reason not to be employed. Employer has their own reasons and their priorities are theirs, not yours. Your priorities will be ignored if it conflicts against theirs. I finally gave up to depend on my previous employer and started my own recruiting campaign. But, due to the economy I could not get a position which is satisfactory to me.

Anyways, I went back to Japan end of 2001 and started working for another company dealing with Internet Security. Again, I came to be fed by selfish attitude of my employer and ending up resigning from ttheir, too. I now regret that I spent too long time to be employed. I should have started my own business during that time.

Today, I am totally convinced that self-employed is much better than being employed. You do not have any worries and can pursue your goal with your priority.

Multi Level Marketing?..... Does it work?

For some people, this is the way to go. I have met a few people over the years that swear by it. I know a few people who make over $100k a year working their multi level marketing program. The unfortunate part about it is that they were the only one making money. No one on their team was duplicating the efforts they were doing. Weather they were selling vitamins, travel, a gas saver product, lotions, potions, pills, candles or juice beverage products, I have tried it all and it was a difficult task for me. Once I ran out of my friends and family to bug about my new business, once I had two or three home parties, I ran out of leads, so I started buying leads in hopes to try to convert some people into my business. That is so much harder than it sounds. Sure I made sales, but by the time I was getting to the next profit level, the people who I brought in 2-3 months ago were dropping like flies. This is why I could never make it to the next big payout level of the commission plan. For some reason, I would always fall short of the next bonus payout or car bonus. Usually, I would fall short of personal volume or group volume or I would have enough on my left side, but not enough on my right side, so I would miss out on the big payouts, month after month.

This got to be the same old stuff you hear about why MLM doesn’t work for most people and the only people making money were the people at the top of the pyramid. People with huge dowlines and people that have been in the business a long time and lists of hundreds of thousands of people to market to. For any newbie joining, good luck. I once watched a stay at home mom put $13,000 into a business to quit within a year. Most of us are smarter than that and would have quit after a few months and maybe only lost $1000 down the drain, but this person was persistent and did not want to fail. So she kept plugging away until they had no money left and when gas prices went to $3.50, the father of the family couldn’t afford to put gas in the car. So much for helping out.

The only thing we have found on the internet to work for most people is a direct sales company that pays you 100% of the sale. Companies that have a price point of less than $1000 to start. This is the only way you have a chance to succeed. Beware of the $1500 to $5000 programs, the start up company and program jumpers. The truth about start ups is that they have no track record. You have no idea if they will be in business two years later. Watch out for people who jump ship every time a new program comes out on the internet. Most importantly, be careful of the program that costs more than $1000.00. They are hard to sell, no matter how good it sounds.

I hope this helps your research in determining a company that you can be proud to represent.

Also I welcome your comments + opinions, since the above is my opinion and you have your own opinions which may be different from mine. I will respond to you as long as you are open to my response.

Are you comfortable?

There are several criteria I use to judge home based business opportunities is G or NG. You do not want to trick a person to sign in the program without letting the one to learn fully about what you are promoting. So, I always try to leave all the cards open on the table and ask for judgment.

The above includes how much you need to pay for participating in the program. You may want to get Mecedez Benz. But, you do not want to spend $80,000. Then simply you give up. If you continue to persuade one spending $80,000, you are just wasting time.

It is good solid order to show them the program*s advantage how it works and how good. And then how much he/she needs to spend. But, if enough information is not given, the result may be miserable.

It is important that you feel comfortable with the program. It was not a whole bunch, but I tried several programs. All of them did not work. I could not feel excited selling consumables, vitamins, cosmetics, etc..... But, I have a friend who is successful in vitamin business. He tried his product and it worked for him. He could reduce his cholesterol level to be almost normal. He is happy about his products, and he is enthusiastic recommending his products and business to others.

Instead, if you are not perfectly comfortable with the program, trying to recruit prospects, it shows. It does not work like many did not work for me.

This I am truly feel excited about the program. Do you know why? This I can use my expertise and experience in promoting the program. I am confident that I can help you. Help you to build your wealth, build your system, build your knowledge base. I know my program can benefit many corporate people who hopes to build or re-build internet marketing system. It is not banner ads, it is not just PPC. It is not just how to close. Comprehensive. You need comprehensive approach. I can give my advise to people based on what I know and I believe.
