5 Management Elements

Management elements change from time to time. Basic Elements, however, have not changed for a long time. Recently, even these basic elements have been affected due to development of Internet communication.

If one has involved in company management, he might have learned that there are 3 important resources of company management. i) People (basically employee, or Human Resources), ii) Products, and iii) Money (Fund, Capitals, Expenses, or Spending)

The resource can look like a triangle. They are interactive each other. It goes without saying the importance of people for business. It is quite self-explanatory model, including money and products. Now these Management Elements are changing to be "5 Management Elements" instead of basic 3.

It appears the importance of these 3 elements has not changed much in Internet age. One can call them classical management elements. They are there in the new model. What are 5 elements, then? Because of the change of communication media, centered on Internet, people's mind, business behavior, available business tools, market elements, or management resources are no longer 3.

One needs to understand the following 5 elements of management and make use of them, in addition to legacy 3 elements. 4th is "Information". 5th is "Branding". Now the elements look like satellite system. Center, like the Sun, is "People". Satellite planets going around the "People" are "Information", "Branding", "Products", and "Money".

Obviously, 5 elements model replaced 3 elements, since no one can ignore the power of "Information", through Internet. Branding is no longer only for a big organization with a lot of money. People can easily band themselves through broadcasting tools in Internet. In this way, the importance of "People Elements", namely Information and Branding, are increasing in management and marketing models. People do not have to spend large amount of money for Information and Branding. The ones who can manage information and brand will win the next game.

Business is a series of action helping others. Still, "People" is always the center of these elements or any other factors in business. This basic is unchangeable. Business or selling is a mechanism or ruled game. Who makes this mechanism moving? Who participates in the game? PEOPLE does. The Idea was that People being the center of the entire operation managing "Information" and "Brand" promote the flow of "Products" and "Money".

The difference, from the traditional 3 elements model, is "People" is not sitting on the top of other elements, but accessing and utilizing all other 4 elements. "People" is not necessarily the master. They are still the center of all the elements. Instead of "People" are equally positioned in legacy 3 elements model, in the new model, "People" is the center and access all other elements. In the period of change, "People" element increases its value and importance, gaining more tools and resources.

Feel the Touch of Japan in San Francisco, Bay Area

Japan Town, San Francisco, is located near center of the city. When one drives on Geary from east approaching Van Ness, one begins to see 5 stories Japanese style Pagoda. There is an office of National Japanese Association on Post Street, if one is interested in learning Japanese American History. There is a lot of Japanese monuments in Japan Town. The symbolic is the tower located in North Center of Japan Town on Post Street. It says "Japan Town" in Japanese.

This tower copies Fire Watching Tower in Japan. In Edo period of Tokugawa Shogun Government, volunteer and professional fire fighters were watching fires from the top of the tower. When they find a fire, ring the bell inside and alarm residents and signal fire fighters depart from the base station.

The most symbolic in Japan Town is the Japanese style 5 stories Pagoda. Pagoda was built to preserve and save Buddha bones after he deceased. This Pagoda is in the Center Square of 2 main buildings in Japan town. The square is a good place for having lunch with your friend in weekdays. The square today was full of young Asian tourists.

There is a wall on the Geary Street side of Japan Town, between main 2 buildings in the area. The wall was quite solemn. There are 2 Chinese Characters engraved on the wall. The Characters, on the wall, mean "Peace" in Japanese. This square is for preserving and recording what happened in the World War II to teach people how war can affect people.

In Japan Town, Street Names are shown both in English and Japanese. Japan Town is the unique place to find the street names are shown in both languages. I cannot believe 2 countries have a history of war in taking a look at this arrangement.

Walking into the one of 2 main buildings, one would not believe that he still is in the US. One feels like walking in some shopping mall in down town Tokyo, such as Shinjuku.

There are lots of Japan related shops, such as Kimono (Japanese Traditional Clothes) Shops, Japanese Traditional Dram Training Place, Japanese Antique Shops, or Japanese Restaurants. Everybody loves Sushi restaurant in Japan Town, San Francisco.

In the US, historically an immigrant's country, it is not so hard to find any ethnicity. Japan is not an exception. The most typical is Japan Town, but even without visiting Japan Town, San Francisco, there are Japan anywhere in Bay Area.

Driving on El Camino Real, which runs across California as a historic drive, one can find an Authentic Japanese Garden, in Central Park San Mateo. The person who designed, built, and maintained is 1st generation Japanese gentleman. His name is Sam. Sam came to US, when he was 10 years old.

After he had changed his job several times, San Mateo County hired him. Until he retired, he was the main person who took care of the Japanese Garden. In winter, he took out all the carps from the pound and changed water. In the spring, he took care of flowers and sharp wood branch tips so that children who play there were not hurt. Even after his official retirement, he goes to his garden and make sure everything is in order. His constant care and effort kept the garden beautiful.

Dogs in Motion Pictures, 10 Promises to My Dog

Pets give us a lot of enjoyment, smiles, laughter, relaxation, refreshment, new meaning of life, and sense of responsibility. Any pet animal is sweet and adorable. Cats are independent and dependent at the same time. In that sense, a cat is low maintenance, but adorable. Dogs are relatively high maintenance. An owner of a dog needs to walk his dog at least twice a day. He needs to take his dog to a dog park some times. His dog barks when he is on a phone. His dog begs for his food when the owner is eating. Despite of high-maintenance feature, people love dogs.

One can find a dog is attractive because he can interact with his dog. A dog responds to its owner almost as it knows how its owner feels. When one feel depressed his dog comes to lick his fingers to cheer him up. When one feels happy, his dog barks, runs, and jumps to show the owner how happy it is. A dog listens its family's conversation. It sometimes looks like giving its owner some advice. It gives him a help one-way or the other.

There were considerable numbers of dog movies. Many of them are good stories. 101 Dalmatians is a classic. Beethoven was very funny. K9 was terrific, too. "Marley and me" is an excellent family movie. There is a Japanese movie, which will make people cry. Its title is "10 promises to my dog". Opening of the film catches one's eyes and ears. It says:

"God created human beings. Next day, God found they are very vulnerable. He decided give them dogs."

The movie released in Japanese Theaters in March 2008. This is about the relationship between a girl who lost her mother and her dog, golden retriever puppy. The girl's mother before she died taught her girl how to build a relationship with her new puppy, "Socks". The following is the list:

1.    Listen patiently to what I have to say.
2.    Trust me, for I am always on your side.
3.    Play with me a lot.
4.    Do not forget that I have feelings too.
5.    Let's never fight, 'Cause someday, I'll be big enough to win.
6.    If I do not obey you, I have a good reason.
7.    You have school, and friends. But as for me, I only have you.
8.    Stay my best friend even when I'm old.
9.    I'll only live about ten years; so let's make every moment count.
10.  I'll never forget our life together. So when my time comes, please be by my side.

They are promises with her dog. All of them, however, are beneficial for human relationship. If the reader is a dog lover, he will love it.

What Is Your Interpretation of the Proverb, A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss

This is a controversial proverb. Generally it means that the people who change their occupations often do not obtain a particular professional skill. The other interpretation is that people who pursue new challenges never get old and dull, but stay young and fresh. We have never known a proverb that has such different interpretations. The Japanese version of this proverb, in its negative form, is same as the English version. Most likely, the Japanese version was translated from the original English. The version with a positive meaning in Japanese is, "When the stream of a river is fast, the water does not go bad."

Hanako was a dreamer. She had many dreams. She wanted to be a window decorator. She hoped to have a job in a Web creation business. Sometimes she thought simply marrying a person whom she loved would not be a bad idea. She graduated from college and started working as a secretary for an executive in an electronics company. She liked her job, but she could not give up her dream of having a creative job. To this end, she attended design school after work.

Hanako had a friend named Minori. She did not consider herself clever. After finishing her study of English literature, Minori continued to study English, and became an English-Japanese translator. Her translation speed was not fast, but she worked with attention to detail and made few mistakes. She did not take more work than she could handle, but for the jobs she did take, her translations were detailed and thorough. She gradually became popular. She began getting offers for jobs in the academic translation field.

As a one of the leading professionals of the age, Minori was interviewed by a TV program. Hanako watched Minori receive VIP treatment in the program and envied her. Hanako had been unable to get a creative job. She had changed her job several times. She found herself lacking professionalism in many things. Well, she thought, if nothing works, I will find a partner and marry him.

Minori did not look very pretty on TV. She was wearing a dark-colored suit like a man would wear. Her suit was dark gray and did not match her shirt. Her hair was not well styled; it was just tied back on her head. Hanako thought herself more attractive than Minori.

Which woman do you find more attractive? The bottom line is that everybody is different and everybody is attractive, as long as they live their lives to the full extent.

Story of Liu Bei and Tsuge Liang

In the first century, three kingdoms were fighting to unify China. The first kingdom, the Wei, was the largest and strongest; the second was the Wu; and the third was the Shu Han. Liu Bei was the first king of the Shu Han, fighting against Cao Cao, the king of the Wei. Liu Bei mostly allied with Sun Quan, the king of the Wu (who was against the large, strong Wei). The Wei controlled a large area in the northern region of China. The Wu were situated in the southwest. Liu Bei was the last to form his own kingdom.

Liu Bei had a problem. Although he had brave and loyal generals, who were his sworn brothers, he did not have a strategist or a statesman to help him command his army and run his country. Liu Bei heard about a young, but capable, man named Tsuge Liang, who was not only a military strategist, but also a visionary theorist on politics. Tsuge Liang had been asked to work for the Wei and the Wu as one of their top strategists. He had not accepted their invitation since he did not agree with their policies.

Bei desperately hoped for Tsuge Liang to join his team. He knew that it would be difficult to persuade Liang accept his offer because Liang would not be moved by political rhetoric; he was not interested in making money. Bei decided to visit Liang alone in person. Liang lived a thousand miles away in the mountains. The winter season saw snow fall that year. Bei traveled to Liang's, only to find he was not home.

He said he would be back and returned to his hotel. On the second day he returned to Liang's house, knowing that he would be out. His intention was to tacitly tell the family how badly Bei wanted Liang. On the third day, Bei met Liang for the first time. Liang agreed to work for Bei.

Tsuge Liang brought Liu Bei victory in several critical battles against Wei. Liang enabled Liu to build his own kingdom and become the first king. He made the country both wealthy and peaceful. When Liu was on his deathbed, he told Liang that he wanted Liang to support his son, but only if Liang believed that his son was capable of becoming the second king. Bei told him that if Liang found his son was not good enough to become the second king, Liang should get rid of his son and become the second king himself. Liang swore that he would dedicate his life to supporting Bei's son. Shu Han continued to be wealthy and prosperous, fighting effectively against two rival countries until the time of Liang's death. The story of Liu Bei and Tsuge Liang gives us profound advice about the importance of selecting, recruiting, and working with a partner.
