Beijing Buffet

The variety of foods that can be enjoyed in San Francisco is remarkably broad: Italian, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian, Indonesian, and Vietnamese. However, I cannot list them all. Even compared to New York City, San Francisco's variety of food does not lose its excellence.

In addition, the cost for enjoying these fabulous foods is amazingly reasonable. I consider buffet-style restaurants to be the most cost-effective. About two years ago, we found an extremely good Asian cuisine buffet restaurant, the Beijing Buffet, close to the San Francisco Airport. I referred to several rating sites before writing this article, and the ratings varied from person to person. However, the general rating was average. My own experience at this restaurant has been good, and my wife and mother-in-law love it as well. Because my wife is a Chinese American who was born in China, her sense of taste for authentic Chinese foods is trustworthy.

My wife and I like this place because of the size of the buffet and the variety of foods offered. There are five large buffet tables that keep the food warm. Along the right wall of the square restaurant is the counter for sushi, sashimi, shrimp, crab, and fresh seafood. The other counter carries both warm and cold Asian and European deserts. At the end of the desert counter, there are ice cream self-dispensers that offer the following flavors: vanilla, chocolate, or a mixture of both.

Each buffet table has its own food categories:
1) warm vegetables and cold salads,
2) fish and seafood,
3) Chinese and American-style poultry,
4) fried rice, noodles, and rice soup, and
5) steamed, fried, or boiled pot stickers and Chinese-style meat buns.

Some restaurants offer a regular menu in addition to a buffet. Beijing Buffet does not have regular menu. However, a BBQ counter is a part of the buffet service offered by this restaurant. They have a buffet menu for both lunch and dinner. My wife is not very excited about BBQ, but I love it. It is like ordering an omelet to your taste during breakfast at a hotel. The buffet includes choices of beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, fish, vegetables, tomatoes, bean sprouts, and more. Although some buffet-style restaurants do not have lobsters or crabs at lunch, this place offers all types of foods for both lunch and dinner.

You also can ask the chef to make your dish spicier, sweeter, or saltier. Mr. Choi, who works in the BBQ section, became my friend because he thinks that I request more choices in my food than other people. If you like grilled fish or jumbo shrimp, you can ask to have it skewered. If you want to eat Chinese buns, which are called pao, Mr. Choi can grill them for you. He makes pao with only pork, pork and vegetable pao, and pao with only vegetables, or sweet pao.

Finally, you can order Chinese egg noodles grilled with your choice of meat, seafood, vegetables, or a combination of these options. You can also choose thick egg noodles, thin egg noodles, or rice noodles.

Importance of Being Determined

There are several factors to be happy in our lives and successful in business. Stability of mind is one of them. Sense of balance is another one. Strength of mind is essential factor as well. There are several movies even not serious ones, which talks about how mentality affects our lives and business. I watched Karate Kid several times. Not only because I practice Karate, but also because there are several elements that the movie can convey. Importance of Determination is one of them clearly shown in this movie in my opinion.

Going to details of the movie will be avoided other than related parts. The boy, Daniel, was sensitive type high school kid. Other strong and big guys looked down on him and punching, kicking, tossing him around. He did not like it. But he could not help accepting them because he knew that he could not fight against them. He visited Karate Dojo, but he could not join the school. He could not have enough courage.

It is not my main point of this article, many Karate masters who I know were like him when their school days. They did not like themselves being fooled by others due to the weakness, smallness, shortness, and they hated themselves to be coward. That is why they determined to practice Karate, train themselves, and being strong. Their motivation was first to effectively fight against those who fooled them. But later they change their purposes to defend themselves and family as Karate spirits gradually melt into their brain and spine.

Let us go back to the boy. One night, he was surrounded by these big guys and beaten up to the extent that he could be hospitalized. Master Miyagi appeared and defeated all big boys and saved the boy, Daniel. Mr. Miyagi is not big guy and he looked like just an ordinary old person. Daniel was impressed by Master Miyagi and asked him to teach Karate.

Mr. Miyagi was reluctant firstly. Karate is not for fighting back. It is only for defense. Finally Master Miyagi accepted his desire and told the boy that he will teach Daniel Karate. Here is the scene. Next morning Master Miyagi asks Daniel if he is ready. He answered, "Maybe". Master Miyagi told the boy it is wrong answer. He continues that he is safe if he walks on the right side of a road. He is safe If he walks left side of the road. But he will be soon or later run over by a car if he wonders around in the middle of the road (without deciding right or left). Master Miyagi further continues, "If you do not do Karate, you are safe. If you do Karate, OK. But if you do Karate, may be, it is like walking the middle of the road. Soon or later you will be run over and killed.

I was impressed by this lesson. Is there any thing we do not do with absolute determination in our lives? Is not it the reason why we do not succeed doing it?

Self-Employed and Being Employed

When one stayed in the same environment, he got so much used to it that he took it granted. It would be okay if one kept staying in the environment. If, for any reason, one needed to get out of his long-stayed environment, he would get lost for various things. It is true in a working environment. If one were working in an office of relatively large organization, he would take it granted for some certain things, which his organization provided. He would lose supporting function. If he was in sales department, he had marketing, accounting, finance, delivery, and, in many cases, technical support from his company.

If he decided to go for his own business and resigned his organization, he is not quitting his company. He is quitting these supports, too. One gone independent sometimes found him to get lost, losing all supports he used to get. In his office, someone else planned, drew, and printed, and brought his own company brochures so that he could give them to his clients. Being independent, he needs to prepare a media, even not a brochure, which explains who he is and what he does. Somebody else used to take copies for him when he needed them. He needs to take his own copies after his independence. Papers! Who prepare papers for his copies? He needs to do it.

Facing a difficult client, he had office fiends, who he could discuss the situation. He now needs to consider and decide his action by himself. One needs to be careful on his mental situation in dealing with this change of environment. There are people who are depressed with these changes. Some may become even sick.

There was a real estate agent who went independent quite recently. He used to work in a good and wide office. He did not have to worry about who run his financial. He had support to do basics for him. His assistant took copies and stapled documents so that documents were ready for submitting to his clients.

He needed to take his own copies and stapled his documents for his clients. He could not invite his clients to her office, because his office was simply his garage room. He did not get depressed. He thought he should play smart. He tried to use resources of others as much as he could. There were several related people with his deals, such as banks, title companies, financial institutions, and agents from his counterpart, sometimes buyers' or sometimes sellers'. Oh, yes, he should not forget about his clients. His clients are prestigious people, since they are the ones who buy and sell properties. They had resources this independent real estate could use. He started to use PC in his client's home. He took his copies, using printers they had. He emailed documents and asked recipients to print. Gradually, this agent started to lose trust from his clients. These seem trivial things. However, human relationship could be harmed from small things. These are the ones, which people gone independent, should pay attention.

It's Christmas Once Again in San Francisco

Everybody would agree that San Francisco is a romantic place. Christmas is a romantic season. It would be why this city is harmonious with Christmas. San Francisco appears in several Christmas songs. Among Christmas songs of the city, the most popular and famous one is "Christmas in San Francisco". Several musicians sang this song. Many Blogs are writing about this song in different languages. They include English, Chinese, and Japanese.

It starts; "Christmas in San Francisco. What a lovely place to be! Seeing the hills being all lit up like a diamond Christmas tree." Looking up the hilltop on California Street from the lower side on Grant, Karney, or Montgomery, lighting illuminations of both sides of California Street are breath-taking.

The song continues; "Hearing children singing carols, people come from everywhere to sing along with the children standing all around Union Square." Though The Bay Area does not have snow in Christmas season around the year, it is common to see this kind of typical Christmas scenes. Friendly San Francisco residents like to join visitors to sing with children.

"Let's take a peek in Chinatown, eating lychee nuts and barbecued boar. What can you say about the Golden Gate that hasn't been said before." It sings San Francisco's favorite places for both visitors and residents. Chinatown is the perfect place to unwind with tea and dumpling. Golden Gate Bridge appears in its lyric as a spectacular marvel.

The song enters into its ending with the lyric; "Christmas in San Francisco. There is no place quite so dear. It's the closest thing to heaven. How I wish that you were here." San Francisco is a romantic place to stay in Christmas. If one were with your spouse, partner, lover, boyfriend, or girlfriend, the city would be cheerful, enjoyable, and colorful place. Even one were alone in the city, like this song, the city would be warm, kind, and sympathetic to your loneliness.

Visitors can enjoy Christmas in San Francisco no matter where they are visiting. There are several places that visitors do not want to miss. The one on the top of the list is "Union Square". In addition to the world-famous Christmas tree in the square, Macy's dresses up with Christmas illumination. Tiffany's, Newman Marcus, Levis, and shops decorate their windows with colorful and glittering lighting. Decorations in hotels are extraordinary. Hotels, such as Westin Saint Francis, Handlery Union Square, Villa Florence, Grand Hyatt, or Hilton, all of them compete each other on their unique decorations. Either visitors or residents enjoy Christmas in this city.

Christmas By the Bay

It is the holiday season again. There are things, which make people feel like the holiday season. Christmas decorations, people's greetings, Christmas cards, phone calls from a family member lives in far away city. The music is the one on the top of the list among others. Especially, the music sings on the local area one lives, it gives him melancholic mood.

It is remarkable that San Francisco has Christmas songs, which refer to the city. Here is one of them. The name of this song is "Christmas By the Bay".

The song begins with the first phrase; "The silver bells are ringing with each passing cable car. An Irish coffee greets us at the Buena Vista Bar." It is remarkable the song goes very local from the opening.

The first phrase continues; "The Golden Gate is glowing on this cool December night. And the cities highest towers shine like presents wrapped in light." The Union Square is famous for the Christmas tree and decoration. Embarcadero shopping center buildings and Hyatt hotel decorate entire buildings. The view over this part of the city is remarkable when one drives over the Bay Bridge.

The song goes on; "The city sparkles now as the carols start to play. It's Christmas by the bay. Candles glow, and our hearts are light in a most familiar way." The city decoration and atmosphere of this season turns up ones' hearts.

"Where the stores are decorated and a chill is in the air. We'll be holding hands together by the tree in Union Square." This is San Franciscan's favorite phrase. San Francisco gives romantic environment for everybody. No matter who one is, a visitor, or a resident. San Francisco is romantic for lovers as this song, visitors with family, children, or lonesome travelers.

"Oh, it's Christmas by the bay. A time to celebrate in the San Francisco way. It's Christmas by the bay. I'm with you in my favorite place on my favorite holiday." All San Francisco people agree that there is "the San Francisco way" to celebrate the holiday season. Union Square, Embarcadero, or Fisherman's Wharf decorations are part of the San Francisco way. This song has a happy ending since the singer is "with you" in celebrating his holiday in his favorite place.

Rhythm and Blues like music is excellent. The rhythms and melody-lines were perfect for calming one down from the party excitement after he returns home with his partner. This is the song one can enjoy listening with your partner or family members late night of the holiday season. This picturesque song gives you a feeling as if you are watching "Slide Show" of Christmas scenery in San Francisco.

The song is posted on YouTube. The video article has 16,241 views, 76 likes, and 34 comments or more. The readers can Google-search it with keywords "Christmas by the bay" to find the music with the San Francisco scenery in Christmas.

San Francisco in Christmas Songs

Since everyone imagines the snow in Christmas, San Francisco weather in winter is nothing like Christmas. Despite it, San Francisco appears in popular Christmas songs. The most famous is "Christmas in San Francisco". Another one is "Christmas by the bay". The last one is "It's Christmas once again in San Francisco". Since the author does not know any Christmas songs for New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles, for example, the city must have some harmony with Christmas. Such harmony may be the romantic atmosphere this city has.

Among these Christmas songs, "It's Christmas once again in San Francisco" is the one makes people happy and smile.

It starts with rhythmical country and western-style music; "It's Christmas once again in San Francisco. There is not a snowflake to be found. There are no sleigh rides or snowmen like I see on a Christmas card." This phrase is short but concise in describing the Bay Area in Christmas. It is short but enough to get people's attention.

The song continues; "Oh but we got a lot of Christmas in our heart." This short music line makes San Francisco people strongly nod and whisper in their brain; "Yes, we do. Yes, we do."

Next phrase repeats the first phrase. Women chorus joins in the main vocalist and goes; "It's Christmas once again in San Francisco. There is not a snowflake to be found. There are no sleigh rides or snowmen like I see on a Christmas card." This time it sounds more cheerful with women vocals. They make such a difference.

Early part ends with the repeating of the Bay Area people's mind; "Oh but we got a lot of Christmas, we got a lot of Christmas, we got a lot of Christmas in our heart." This part is also mixed vocal chorus and sounds more colorful. It sounds almost like seeing snow glittering.

This is the song singing for the Bay Area people. Many houses in the Bay Area started to dress up for Christmas with colorful lighting illumination. On eucalyptus Avenue in San Calros, Bay Area, there are houses extensively illuminating their homes for Christmas. Some of the houses there bring in snows for children to play. Children in San Francisco Bay Area look forward to Santa Claus coming. Although San Francisco does not have a weather like Christmas in many other areas, they share the spirit of Christmas. They celebrate Christmas like others. All San Francisco is looking forward to it. They feel exactly the song goes, "Oh but we got a lot of Christmas in our heart."

Remark of Song Lyrics: Christmas Once Again in San Francisco by Barry DeVorzon: Dictated from his CD.

What is the Meaning of "Fill the Missing Link"?

I found the secret of "Fill the Missing Link". After more than 20 years of being employed, I decided to become independent and self-employed. It was so much different being self-employed from being employed. For example, being employed, the company brand is already there and will be given, regardless you like it or not. But, being self-employed, you must get one like getting missing part of puzzle. This article describes my belief and basic concept how to apply the secret of this philosophy and be successful.

No matter what you do, who you are, life is like solving "jigsaw puzzle". You would like to complete the whole puzzle, but there are always missing parts. You do not want to give up your attempt, so you end up continuing to "Fill the Missing Link". By "finding the right piece of puzzle". When you can fill the missing part, being one-step closer to complete. Then, you see better picture, you will be a step ahead for completion. It also becomes easier to find the next missing piece.

This process is very constructive. You can build positive thinking and action by continuing this. It also seems to me that this theory applies not just for business, but also for life. We almost always have something missing for our lives. But, we cannot leave them to be missing. We continue to find someone, something, which can fill your missing part.

Either in life or in business, we all need someone who can help you "Finding a Piece of Puzzle" and "Filling the Missing Link". I would love to help you finding the piece and improve your business. This is my goal of my company business. This is not just concept. You will find this can be effective methodology for improvement of your business and life.

It Was Important For My Vietnamese Friend to Deliver Fax

Here is an impressive experience of mine in Vietnam. In 1996, all Asian advanced countries were so much interested in doing business with Vietnam or in Vietnam. We were looking for an opportunity to form a Joint Venture with Vietnamese company. Ho Chi Ming City, Sigon was full of people. They were riding bikes, circling around in the city, selling bags on streets, talking with each other in loud voice. They were full of energy. I always stayed in New World Hotel in Ho Chi Ming City. One weekend, my friend has his family schedule, so he excused leaving me alone for entire weekend. Honestly, I was glad that I could explore in the city. Saturday afternoon, I went out of the hotel entrance to walk. I tried to walk across to the other side of the front road. I could not do that. So many bikes and motorbikes were going around. Despite that Vietnamese people walk across the road, I could not find a moment even start walking across.

I walked around my hotel about half an hour founding no chance to walk across any part of the road. The traffic was not so fast but so heavy, I did not feel I could go across the road safely. After half an hour of effort in vain, I gave up and walked back in to my hotel. The hotel was modernized. They had western style restaurant, Chinese style food, exercise room, running machine, training bicycles, meeting rooms, communication rooms with PC and fax machines, and so forth. My stay was comfortable. Giving up exploring in the city, I started working on my computer. It was almost sun set when my room phone rang and my office colleague wanted to send me a fax document for me to work on. Having not so much things to do for the rest of the weekend, I was half glad I had something to do. I told him my fax number.

It was funny that I waited for more than 2 hours, my fax had not come in. I called hotel staff and they told me I received no fax. I called up Tokyo and found my colleague is still preparing for his fax. I told him I would go down and eat dinner. I had several beers in my dinner and came back to my room sleepy. I thought I could work on his fax next day. The next day is Sunday and I had no plan anyway. I crawled into bed and slept.

It was passed midnight I was awakened by someone who is loudly banging my door. Shaking sleepy head I woke up, dressed, and walked toward the door. I asked what it was. A hotel crew answered back loudly, "Sir, you received a fax". I was a little upset because I was disturbed my sleep. I slammed open the door and asked, "How come you did not just slide in the fax from the bottom of the door?" He looked a little surprised. He sounded wonder why my reaction was kind of harsh. He answered, "Well, sir, I thought the fax is needed to be delivered urgently. That is why they fax you, right, sir?" His answer backed me off. He is right. They faxed it because they needed to fax it to me. I explained that I was sleeping and half drunk. I thanked him and tried to tip him. He excused my tip and said he was glad he could be useful for me.

This hotel crew taught me that we could not react from our own judgment when we are in the different country, different cultural background.

Do You Need Ex-Employment Help?

How do you feel if your company fires you after long years of your working for them? What do you think will happen next after you left your office you were familiar? You must be thinking who replaces you and who takes your office, and who will take over your works you once was so enthusiastically pursued.

You wonder what was all the effort you put in for your work, your company, even putting family matters aside. You might have taken next earliest possible flight for business trip leaving unhappy your family behind. How dear this company still could dump me!

I myself went through this experience in the process of being independent from my previous employer after 20 years of. I know personally how difficult it is. However, you should not be suffering from it too much. You need to know that it is your mind tricking yourself and torturing you. It is important for me to make sure that these people shall not suffer, go through all the pains, fell like meaningless trash of society. I would like you to enjoy the transit from employment to ex-employment.

Now, it is about the time to set your mental status of being ex-employed and enjoy the process. You can either try to find next job or go independent to be your own. You can be excited and enjoying the process of starting something new for you and your family.

If you decide to be a business owner who is ex-employment after long years of hard work for a company, you must have felt strong, ambitious, anticipating, rigorous, expecting all new challenges in front of you.

Yet, sometimes you feel depressed. You feel small, sad, lost, disconnected. Despite that you used to hate your employer, company, office, boss, you miss them. Feel isolated and lonely.

Even you feel only something worse will be coming after enough bad happened. You feel different in talking with people. You are afraid that people look down on you, laughing at you. You are afraid of calling, talking, taking challenges, though you were so much anticipated to be your own. I felt this way. It took me long time to got out of this kind of condition.

Your strongest supporter in your new business challenge is your family. But you cannot talk with your family about it because it will make your family feel unsecured. You hope that your family feels strong about you, don't you?

But, there is a solution to get out of this kind of depressed mental situation. You accept your problem and address it with people who you can trust. Get associated with the people who has same problem. Especially talk with someone who could overcome these problems. Remember 3 things:
1. It is your own mind which plays trick on you. If you redirect your mind, you can take a look at the bright side of the things.
2. Be straight and be honest to accept your problems. Everybody will have problems if they are put in your position.
3. Don't hesitate or feel ashamed to ask for help. Ask help for someone who you can trust. It is better if you can get help from someone who had same experience as yours.
