Quality Seminar You Want to Attend

I am here in San Diego to attend a seminar to teach how to orchestrate your Internet Business. The seminar is unique that was 100% hands on, participation style, blogging, branding, brain storming. Participants were speaking almost equally to the speakers were lecturing.

I needed to drive 9 hours from San Francisco to San Diego taking my relaxed time, but I am happy to participate and glad that I drove down to attend the meeting.

It was not only the contents of seminar, the quality of members who attended the seminar were awesome. I enjoyed chatting, exchanging views and opinions in break time, lunch time, and after the seminar networking with the people who joined the seminar. I will go into the details in my postings tomorrow. But if you want to spend QUALITY of time, this is the type of seminar you want to attend. You have been to some seminar before for sure, but how many seminar you remember that you need to stand up and express yourself what you need, what you worry, and what you need to address from then on.

How many seminars did you attend, which tried to sell you more, throw information at you and do not care how and when you will use them. This was different and excellent.

As I said I will go more details in my posting later on. You will love it.

What is anxiety?

In many different cultures and histories, warriors and knights closely related to religious people. In Europe, China, India, Japan, etc... whenever or wherever strong heroes or leaders were, there were spiritual mentors, who are mostly religious people.

15th century in Japan was totally political chaos. There are so many local lords tried to become the king of Japan. There were wars, fights, plots, betrayals for more than 100 years. There was a local lord who once was brave and fearless. One day he found himself fearful to fight. He could no long maintain stability of his mind. He went to the Buddhism Priest who was a mentor for him.

"My teacher, I am having anxiety attacks. I am fearful and I can no longer fight. Do you know any way how you can get rid of my anxiety?" The lord asked. Then the priest said to him.
"My son, I definitely can get rid of your anxiety. First I want to take a look at it. Please take your anxiety out here and show me."
The lord frowned. "Sir, the anxiety is the status of mind which cannot be seen, cannot be taken out, cannot be shown."
"That's right, my boy. Your anxiety is just in your mind. It was what your own mind created. Are you afraid of your own mind?"

The lord understood his teachers point. He could recover and manage his own anxiety from then on.

Japanese American and I -2

When I decided to keep staying in US and declared so in 2001, there are a lot of problems and frictions in my family. I remember some family members accused me yelling at me "You are abandoning your own mother country and family". I can imagine for the people immigrated to overseas must have had same kind of experience. But, they decided to emigrate based on government policy, this kind of blame may be out of mark.

Japanese Government, despite the promoting this policy, was very irresponsible it seems. In 1980's when Japanese enterprises are building their factories and offices in foreign countries including US, did not hire Japanese Overseas much, in spite of Japanese Overseas People's strong hope, desire, and expectation.

Japanese Americans in WWII time needed to prove themselves to be Americans, needed to give up their original language and expose themselves to fierce European battle field. My wife is a Chinese American born in China. Comparing Chinese Community and Japanese Community in US, I see a clear difference. For example, Japan Town, San Francisco, is a historical monument. No Japanese American Living can be felt. Chinatown, instead, has a lot of living activities. 2nd Floor of Souvenir Shops is their living space, I can hear babies crying, husband and wife are shouting something. After more than 60 years since end of World War II, the War is still affecting peoples lives all over the world.

There were time when Japanese Companies hiring Japanese Overseas inviting them from Brazil, etc... Because younger generations population is decreasing in Japan, it is only way to expand their business in Japan. The situation changed last year. Due to the bad economy today. They are now firing them, according to Japanese TV News Program. I cannot help talking to myself what a country. What a companies. So selfish.

I am starting to believe that now is the time that Japanese Overseas - Japanese should strengthen their ties and try to cooperate, coordinate, help each other, so that no external environment including government, countries, companies can hurt us any more.

Japanese-Japanese people should learn more about Japanese Americans, Japanese Brazilians, Japanese Overseas. The followings are the same site and blog I showed in part-1, but for Japanese people to learn about Japanese Americans, these are very good sites:
http://www.densho.org/
http://blog.densho.org/

Also, there are Japanese site introducing the history of Japanese Americans, for your reference:
http://www.nifty.com/aja/start.htm

I also hope that this article and information will help world people to understand Japanese and our history a little more than knowing Japanese as "Economic Animal", "Japan as #1" or "WWII enemy", or "Quality Products", or "Toyota", or "Sony" (LOL).

Japanese Americans and I -1

It was February in 2005. I was standing outside of Shen Yang Airport, Liao Nin Province, China. I was taking a flight to Tokyo, Japan in 2 hours. It was just right after Chinese Moon Calendar New Year and outside was freezing cold. But, I cannot stop watching the outside wide, huge, and vast landscape spreading in front of me. It was nothing spectacular, but just flat, wide, and vast. I was thinking to myself that "I can understand the feeling of many Japanese in past felt coming to China and never gone back to Japan."

The history of modern time Japanese emigration brings us back to 1885. Japanese continuously emigrated to several countries. Brazil, US, China, Thailand, etc... until WWII slowed everything. Now, I myself being a "Japanese living outside of Japan', the history of Japanese Overseas has kept interested me. A friend I met 30 some years ago started me to think about it. His name is Paul Nakamura. He was an English Teacher in Tokyo. He looked like a Japanese, but he acted slightly different from Japanese, and he could not speak Japanese other than simple conversation. He was a Japanese American born in California. 3-sei (3rd Generation).

He and I get along together. I attended his lessons, lunch together, dinner and drink together. One time, I asked him if he had not been interested in learning Japanese. He told me that his parents did not want him to learn Japanese. He further told me that his father was constantly nervous and his mother was always angry. And they were always against him and stopped him whenever he showed interest in Japanese stuff. But, he could not stop himself being attracted by Japanese culture and needed to come to Japan and see it and feel it.

Since I met Paul, I started to think about Japanese Overseas. Because I was also the one who is majorly interested in living outside of Japan. I started to live in San Francisco, 1997. My previous employee sent me here as a part of stationed Japanese management team. I came across the Tanforan Shopping Mall's Picture posting above, July, 2008. It was showing Japanese Americans' history in War time. I talked with Japanese American Society and posted the following Japanese Article. "Another Pacific War - Record on Tanforan Japanese Camp".

http://golog.nifty.com/cs/catalog/golog_article/catalog_002300_1.htm?page=1

The following is one of the pictures I was allowed to use from NJAH (National Japanese American Historical Society). There are a lot of pictures but this picture was kept in backside of my eyes for long time. I even feel that this picture keep shouting out loud.

After the article was posted, I did not do anything particular on this subject. On New Year Day, this year, I was watching Japanese TV Program and came across a program about Japanese Americans, and found about the following 2 sites.

http://www.densho.org/
http://blog.densho.org/

I talked with the site management, and showing the above URL and link with their consent.

These are very good website and blog including Japanese Americans' testimonies taken in video. They are great source of historical information.

In taking a look at the testimonies in video clip in these sites and information given from NJAH, I was thinking the relationship between Japanese Americans (Japanese Overseas), Japan, Japanese Japanese, and I.

I did not like this article to be too long. So, I will write my thinking in the next article.

PS: I hope that this article and information will help world people to understand Japanese and our history a little more than knowing Japanese as "Economic Animal", "Japan as #1" or "WWII enemy", or "Quality Products", or "Toyota", or "Sony" (LOL).

5 Market Elements 2

It took me long time to realize that Business is a course of action helping others. In a way I learned Business ABC, they told me "Business consists of 3 elements. People, Products, Money." And "People" is always the top of these elements or any other factors in business.

Business or selling can be a mechanism or ruled game. But who makes this mechanism moving? Who participate in the game. PEOPLE. In my foregoing article, "5 Market Element", I mentioned that these 3 elements are getting to be 5 in present and updated business management. I used the following illustration.

It was my own illustration. But I was thinking about this illustration since I felt a little uncomfortable in the way it was written. I took my software and wrote a bunch of illustrations.

I finally settled with the following illustration:

The Idea was that People being the center of entire operation managing "Information" and "Brand", therefore create flow of "Products" and "Money".

The difference is "People" is not sitting on the top of 4 other elements, but accessing and utilizing all of them. In my new illustration, "People" is not necessarily the master. But they are the center of all the elements.

Instead of "People" are equally positioned in legacy 3 elements model, in the new model, "People" is the center and access all other elements.

I have an opinion that in the change era, "People" element increases its value and importance.

Fill the Missing Link - Website M&A -

One of my business lines is "Website M&A". Please also refer to my company website, "http://zhenintl.ws/", Section of "Web-based Business".

Typical example of this M&A, Merger and Acquisition, is Google bought out YouTube. Google wanted Video Site business and bought out YouTube. YouTube became a part of Google and Google acquired YouTube's members, patrons, and largest Video uploading site in the world.

M&A is conducted for many different reasons, such as shutting up competitions, white knight (save) troubled companies, acquire technology overnight, etc... But, for me it is a perfect example of "Fill the Missing Link". If you are good at manufacturing and I am good at selling, if we merge together and partner in a business is very good matching.

My Japanese Partner and I are now working on 5 projects. One in Europe, 2 in China, and the other 2 are India projects.

I would love to have a US project.

If you are interested in buying, selling, partnering, JV, funding your existing business or future business, or you know someone who is interested in those, please let me know. My partner and I will find the best partner for you.

Changes

How many of you know that "Toyota" started its company as a automatic loom manufacturer.

Did you know that "Kanebo", now the cosmetics company also was a yarn spinning mill factory in textile industry?

GE started as light valve company. IBM was a typewriter company.

Almost forgot that Honda was a motor-bike company whose history manufacturing automobiles are relatively young.

President-elect Barak Obama started his slogan "Change". Change is good for improvement, challenges to achieve higher level of life stage. In addition, change is the absolute necessity to survive like above great companies survived by changing. Insect grows by changing. Frogs and other amphibians change their shapes in growing. Metamorphosis is a part of lives.

I hope the year 2009 is the year for "Change". Good Change, I mean.

Why is it difficult to improve your business?

In holiday season, I had a time to talk with my old friend who is in Consultation Business for Big Enterprises in Japan. We exchanged views and opinions on ever changing Internet business field.

In our conversation, he indicated interesting facts related to "Fill the Missing Link" to improve your business.

He said more than 90% of his clients tell him "We know what is the problem." when he first meet them. Then, why they do not change and why they need an outside consultant? He got used to it these days, but he told me that he used to be stunned on this statement.

2nd interesting reaction from his clients comes after all the consultation is finished and his clients have clear cut idea what they should do to change. They do not implement any of actions needed for change!?! They pay him and agreed all the action items needed and still do not do anything.

It is not easy for people to be objective to approach to problems. Maybe it was the ones which former president caused. Maybe the problem cannot be solved without removing one of board members.

Two lessons here:
1. To take objective approach to problems, you need third party opinion following step by step stream like "Fill the Missing Link".
2. Even the analysis and planning were totally correct, if you do not implement the plan, nothing changes.

Here are once again importance of "Taking Actions".

Zhuang Zi Tree

Once upon a time in China, there was a huge tree. In spring, summer, autumn, the tree gave full green leaves. The trunk was like dragon body. The people in nearby village were wondering how many houses can be built with this tree. There were carpenters who tried to cut down the tree to get wooden materials from the tree to be used for building a house.

The tree was too hard to cut. They gave up to cut it down. They said the tree is huge, but not be used for anything. They called it useless.

One hot summer day, a famous philosopher, Zhuang Zi found the tree. It was hot and Zhuang Zi was tired from walking long distance. He lied down on the foot of the tree and took a nap. The shade of the tree was perfect to protect him from strong sun light of summer. In the shade, a gentle breeze was very comfortable. He slept for a couple of hours and felt refreshed. After he left, the villagers realized the real use of the tree. Nobody call it "useless" afterward.

This story tells us the value of things can be changed depending on how you view it, how you use it. Huge useless tree to build a house was perfect for providing shade to take a nap. Is bad economy crisis or chance for us?

The Year 2009

A Happy New Year, my fellow friends.

I stayed up almost all night last night watching news programs in several countries. American News, CNN, Chinese, CCTV, Japanese, NHK, etc... All the news programs were talking about instability and dark side of politics, economics, employment, etc...

Almost there is nobody including myself who does not worry about what will happen in year 2009. However, I have a little bit different view on the Year 2009.

Despite of uncertainty of business in the year 2009, some experienced professionals were expecting there should be bright side. For example, due to the fact that theories in the past do not work any more, some change will inevitably accelerated. International alliance, JV, cooperation will be further speed up in the new way of Business merger and acquisition, Joint effort, Joint Branding. Some have already started. So, there are opportunities in these areas. Also I may not have to point out the fact that major software and internet players in recent 20-30 years were established in bad economy time.

More importantly, I expect there are more opportunities for small or individual business people to succeed, since old, big, and established companies' experience and theories are no longer working well. Even they are planning to change to the right direction, they cannot be as fast as small or individual business people could be.

This is a time for change namely paradigm shift, ladies and gentlemen. Let's plan and take actions for successful year 2009 for all of us.

Enjoy the rest of your holidays.
